I have done a spotlight search on the whole machine for various photos (and checked to make sure I am searching the whole machine) as I had them in albums. I have checked the IPhoto library / pictures etc and it is not there. I am not sure which version of Snow Leopard but it did come with installer DVDs, this Mac belonged to my brother prior to me using it, so everything was set up for me as he was the Mac wizard. Leonie, I never ran Yosemite, I went straight to El Capitan. I have emailed the contact at Apple that I have used previously and I will ask her about a download code for iPhoto 9.6.1, so thank you for your help with that. I think going forward after this, I shall probably use Dropbox. I am very happy to use Photos, that is not the issue here, I just want to be able to retrieve the photos that were previously on the Mac. I have not removed IPhoto, it was their prior to the upgrade. You may need to restore it from your backup, if it should be missing. Is there an iPhoto Library in your Pictures folderol somewhere else on your Mac?
